Aaron Judge Hits His 43rd Homer of the Season as Yankees Get 70th Win

Aaron Judge hit nine home runs in the New York Yankees’ last 11 games of July, and he started off August with one more. It was his 43rd of the season and it helped the Yankees beat the Seattle Mariners 7-2 on August 1st. New York improved its record to 70-34, 12 games in front of second place Toronto in the American League East. The Yankees are the first club to win 70 games.

Judge is having a monster season, hitting .299 with 43 homers and 93 RBIs, a .680 slugging percentage, 261 total bases, and 89 runs scored. Except for his batting average, all the other numbers lead the majors in those statistical categories. Barring injury, (and he’s had a few in his career) he should top most of his career high stats. In 2017, his first full season in the majors, he hit 52 homers with 114 RBIs while hitting .284, with a .627 slugging percentage. He had an OPS of .627 that year: he’s at 1.063 now. He was the American League Rookie of the Year in 2017 and second in the MVP voting. This Career Year thing is happening at the right time for Judge; he’s a free agent after this season and will command some mind boggling amount of money on the free agent market.
