73rd Annual Tony Awards with Host, James Corden

James Corden hosted the 73rd Annual Tony Awards on Sunday, 6/9/2019, honoring “the best of the best of those who do it live” with this opening number:

 
The musical highlights of the evening: The cast of “Ain’t Too Proud: The Temptations Musical” put on a medley of the Temps’ hits that included “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “Just My Imagination” and “I Can’t Get Next To You,” which was quite energetic although I personally don’t recall any Temptations’ performance that I ever saw being, shall we say, quite as frenetic. “Unstoppable” by Santino Fontana was very enjoyable, as was “The Prom” and “Hadestown” numbers, but my favorites were “I Cain’t Say No” by Ali Stroker and “Oklahoma!” by the cast of that revival. That clip isn’t online yet, but here she is performing the song on “Live with Kelly and Ryan” last month:

The 31-year-old actress and singer was the first actress who uses a wheelchair to appear on a Broadway stage and made history again when she won the Tony for Best Featured Actress in a Musical at this ceremony.
