70 National Anthems and some Jeopardy Clues

Here are some Jeopardy! clues I found on J-Archive on some of the national anthems on the preceding page. If there is no category name before the clue, it was “NATIONAL ANTHEMS”

Australia: LYRICS IN OTHER NATIONAL ANTHEMS ($800) “Beneath our radiant Southern Cross, we’ll…make this commonwealth of ours renowned of all the lands”
Austria: ($600) The melody of its anthem, “Land der Berge, Land am Strome”, was incorrectly attributed to Mozart
Belgium: ($1000) “La Brabanconne” is the national anthem of this Low Country
Belize: ($1,800) It’s the only Central American country whose national anthem is sung in English
LET’S VISIT BELIZE ($1600) The first line of Belize’s national anthem mentions this body of water
China: ($200) China’s is the “March of the Volunteers”
($400) “Arise, Ye Who Refuse To Be Slaves; With Our Very Flesh And Blood Let Us Build Our New Great Wall”
Egypt: ($600) “All Should Love, Awe And Cherish Thee, Gracious Is Thy Nile To Humanity”
France: $200: “La Marseillaise”
($400) Claude-Joseph Rouget de Lisle composed it in one night during the French Revolution
Germany: ($200) Its national anthem is called “Deutschlandlied” & is based on a melody by Joseph Haydn
Greece: ($200) This country’s “Hymn to Liberty” was based on a poem by Dionysios Solomos
($500) This country’s “Ymnos Pros Tin Elephterian” is a hymn to liberty, not tin elephants or even grape leaves
India: This large Asian country’s “Jana-Gana-Mana” means “Thou art the ruler of the minds of all the people”
LYRICS IN OTHER NATIONAL ANTHEMS ($600) The anthem of this country says “Thy name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sind, Gujarat & Maratha”
Israel: ($400) “Hatikva”
($600) “Towards the East, an eye looks to Zion”
Japan: ($200) This Asian country’s national anthem is “Kimigayo”, “His Majesty’s Reign”
Mexico: ROUGH WORDS IN NATIONAL ANTHEMS ($800) “May your fields be watered with blood, may they leave their footprints in blood”, sing Oaxacans in this country
Netherlands: COUNTRIES’ NATIONAL ANTHEMS ($600) “Wilhelmus van Nassouwe”, or “William of Nassau”
Norway: ($200) “Yes, we love this land”, sing the fjord dwellers of this country
COMPOSERS ($1200) Rikard Nordraak, who composed this country’s national anthem, was a friend of Edvard Grieg
Poland: ($1000) “Mazurek Dabrowskiego”
BELOVED POLAND ($1600) Poland’s national anthem is in the style of this dance, named for a region of eastern Poland
Romania: ROUGH WORDS IN NATIONAL ANTHEMS ($600) Romanians would get along with New Hampshirites, as they sing of being “either” this “or dead”
Russia: LYRICS IN OTHER NATIONAL ANTHEMS ($400) This huge country boasts, “From the southern seas to the polar realm, our forests & field stretch”
Scotland: ($1600) In 2006 “A Man’s A Man For A’ That” lost a vote to “Flower Of” this British land as a possible future national anthem
South Africa: CULTURES OF SOUTH AFRICA ($200) The Xhosa hymn “Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika” evolved into the South African national anthem; “Nkosi” is God, so the title means this
Switzerland: ($400) “When the Alps glow bright with splendour, pray to God, to him surrender”
($800) This country probably isn’t neutral about “Schweizer Psalm”, its national anthem
United Kingdom: ($100) When Prince Charles becomes ruler of Great Britain, this will be the title of the national anthem
($2000) First performed in 1745, it has been quoted & arranged by composers including Haydn & Britten
United States: EMILY POST SAYS… ($300) In public, if you hear the opening strains of this, stand, & don’t talk, chew gum loudly or smoke
SONG LYRICS ($400) “Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution” is a seldom sung line from this nat’l anthem
