Usain Bolt Will Retire After 2016 Olympics
For those who are tired of seeing Jamaican super star sprinter Usain Bolt win nearly every completion he participates in, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Bolt announced he plans on retiring after the Rio de Janeiro Olympics in 2016. Bolt is the world record holder in the 100 meters and 200 meters, and has won the Gold Medal in the events in the last two Olympic Games. He’s also won gold as part of Jamaica’s 4 X 100 relay team both times. Generally, it’s news when he doesn’t win an event, rather than when he does win.
The 27 year old Bolt has won everything multiple times in the Olympics and other international competitions, but there are still some goals to shoot for. If he wins gold in the 100 meters at Rio, he’ll be the first man to win the event three times. The other two were Archie Hahn (1904, 1906) and Carl Lewis (1984, 1988), both Americans. No one has won the 200 meters more than once except Bolt. He’s already established himself as one ot track’s all time greats irregardless of how he does in 2016, but he wants to go out on top. The competition is on notice.
