Tampa Bay Lightning Tie Record for Most Regular Season Wins in Victory over Boston

The Tampa Bay Lightning closed out their extraordinary 2018-19 regular season with a 6-3 over the Bruins in Boston. The Lightning finished with a record of 62-16-4, which ties them with the 1995-6 Detroit Red Wings for most wins in a regular season. The Lightning won the President’s Trophy with 128 points and will have home ice advantage throughout the Stanley Cup playoffs, and will host the Columbus Blue Jackets in Round One.

The Bruins got off to a 2-0 lead in the first period, but three goals by the Lightning in the second gave Tampa Bay the lead for good. Six different players scored goals for the Lightning. Nikita Kucherov scored one of the goals and had an assist, giving him 128 points as well, enough to win the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s leading scorer. Kucherov finished with 41 goals and 87 assists.

The Lightning will be considered the favorite since they had such a great season wire to wire, but something to keep in mind is that the ’95-’96 Red Wings lost to eventual champions Colorado in the Western Conference Finals (Detroit was in the Central Division of the Western Conference in those days).
