Ray Donovan Recap: Dream On
There was a scene that struck the funny bone in “Dream On” (Ray Donovan, S6 E9 12-23-18) at Grandview, but just about everything else was some heavy duty stuff. There are 3 more episodes after this but the good news is that the show has been renewed for Season 7.
You’re not gonna hit me, are you, Ray? ~ Dr. Amiot
At Grandview Hospital, a psychiatrist named Arthur Amiot came in to talk to Ray, who was just waking up from a “fall in the river with Abby” dream. Ray blamed his blackout on forgetting to eat. The doctor told Ray he had to stay there for 72 hours and they could only contact family for him. Ray spent a little time in the common room where one patient wondered where his twin brother Eldridge was. (It turned out Eldridge wasn’t imaginary). Another advised Ray not to drink from the water fountain because the water was full of bromide. “That’s how they sedate us,” he warned. Ray passed on his suggestion to drink from the toilet.
Bridget came to visit Ray right away. Ray wanted her to contact Officer Sean “Mac” McGrath for him. Bridget’s attempts to interrogate her father on how he ended up in the psych ward and how Ray knew Mac were ignored. Ray demanded to know if she was going to help him or not. He apologized for barking that out and started sobbing. Bridget took down the number and called Mac and presto! Ray was let go. Dr. Amiot advised Ray against leaving but left his card and told Ray to give him a call next time he forgets to eat.
Bridget and Lena were there when Ray came out. Lena had been about to tell Bridget how Ray knew Mac but told Ray to tell her. When he just stood there, Lena told Bridget how Mac saved Ray’s life after he jumped into the East River. She yelled at Ray to be honest for once and stomped off. Ray just told Bridget he was sorry and left.
Bridget went home and told Smitty they couldn’t leave because Ray was really sick and needed her. Smitty said Ray didn’t need her because he was not willing to accept help from her and they could just leave and get away from everything. Hmmm, this is coming from the guy who still has not told her that he makes his money dealing drugs.
If it’s IA, I’m gonna find out who it is ~ Rad
Before going to the hospital to pick up Ray, McGrath met with fellow dirty cops Danny Bianchi and Mikey “Rad” Radulovic. Rad informed them that Mayor Feratti had terminated their roles in the prison scam because Judge Scholl suspected an Internal Affairs investigation and Feratti blamed the three of them for being sloppy. Rad was mad! Bianchi was upset and wondered if he would have to return 2 pairs of jet skis he ordered. Mac told Ray they were going to have to kill Emerson Lake, the IA detective! Ray nixed that and said he would take care of it.
You help my brother, I fix your IA problem ~ Ray Donovan
Ray went to see Mayor Feratti, offering to find out who was ratting to Internal Affairs in exchange for getting Bunchy off the hook with the FBI in California. Next, he met up with Emerson Lake, who was aghast at learning that Ray was going to name names but he cooked up a story to tell Feratti about Judge Scholl being the informant. He said that Mac would be dead by the end of the day if Ray named him. Then he gave Ray a wire to record the conversation. Lake didn’t seem to think they would have the cojones to kill an IA detective or a judge. But he was wrong because that is exactly what Feratti told Ray to do: kill Judge Scholl. Rad was hanging around outside and spotted Emerson Lake, who soon found himself trapped in an elevator by Rad.
Terry Donovan has been medically dejected from the Eliminator ~ Big Easy
Terry was recuperating from the fight he was in last episode. Evidently, he won but was in bad shape anyway, shaking like crazy. Mickey paid him a visit, claiming he wanted to get in touch with Ray to mend fences. Terry wasn’t buying it but he stupidly told Mickey about the $50K purse he was 2 bouts away from. Mickey called up Daryll and asked him if he was ready to lace up his boxing gloves again. Daryll flatly refused, remembering the last fight that Mickey arranged for him in Mexico. He took a severe beating and then learned Mickey bet against him.
Bunchy overheard Daryll’s end of the conversation and decided he wanted to take Terry’s place. Big Easy introduced him as El Trebol, “a man experienced in the arts of fistiana.” Compared to his well-muscled opponent, Bunchy looked… well, downright flabby. However, his opponent had a weakness that Mickey immediately spotted. He used an inhaler to help him breathe and when the fight commenced, Mickey made sure that went missing. In the next fight, Bunchy would have no such luck. Even after he could no longer put up any defense, he got up and just let the man punch him in the face until he landed flat on his back and passed out. Mickey just left.
Daryll stayed back with Aunt Sandy where they were making some plans to sell bible verse recordings but somehow, the tapes got all tangled and messed up. Aunt Sandy put her Aerosmith album on the table and played “Dream On.” The song played as we watched Terry help Bunchy out of the fight venue. Mickey got in Ray’s apartment after tying up the security guard and he waited with a gun for Ray’s return. Ray drove to Mac’s. On the way he saw a dead person being taken away and saw his own face on the body.
When he got to Mac’s house, Mac came down the hallway and said “I trusted you.” You could see Emerson Lake badly beaten in the living room. All Ray got out was “What?” Then he was punched in the face by Rad who said, “You wore a wire, Ray?” Danny Bianchi appeared behind Rad who took out a baton to give Ray a good beating. Ray still has one ace in the hole though. Before he went to the Feratti meeting, he visited his friend Ron’s surveillance shop and Ron hacked the frequency of the wire and made a copy of the transmission. Ray just has to make it out of Mac’s alive!
