Ohio State Knocks off Penn State; Iowa State Upsets TCU in College Football
Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett passed for 328 yards and four touchdowns to lead the sixth ranked Buckeyes to a 39-38 come from behind victory over #2 Penn State in Columbus on October 28th. Penn State led 35-20 at the end of the third quarter, and had a 38-27 lead with 5:42 to go in the fourth before the Buckeyes stormed down field, scoring two touchdowns on a pair of Barrett TD passes to hand Penn State (7-1, 4-1 in the Big Ten) its first loss of the season.
The Buckeyes improved to 5-0 in conference play, 7-1 overall. OSU leads the Big Ten East, dropping Penn State to second, tied with Michigan State, who is 4-1 in the conference, 6-2 overall. They’ll break that tie next Saturday, when the Spartans host Penn State. Michigan State will then play at Ohio State the following Saturday, so it will be an interesting couple of weekends coming up.
In another game of note on October 28th, it appears that Iowa State is for real. The 25th ranked Cyclones, who upset then #3 Oklahoma earlier in October, beat undefeated and fourth ranked TCU 14-7 in Ames, Iowa, behind two touchdown passes from QB Kyle Kempt. Iowa State, Oklahoma, TCU, and Oklahoma State are all 4-1 in conference play; ISU is 6-2 overall and the other three are 7-1. This logjam could be broken up in the next two weekends as Oklahoma and Oklahoma State meet in Stillwater on November 4th and the Sooners will host TCU a week later. Iowa State will host Oklahoma State on November 11th.
