Norwegian Cross Country Skier Johannes Klaebo Ties All Time Winter Olympic Record for Gold Medals
Cross country skiing is a really big deal in Norway, and the Norwegian skier who is the top dog in the sport is 29 year old Johannes Klaebo. On February 13th, Klaebo won the men’s 10 kilometer interval start race for his third gold medal of these Olympics. It was his third gold of these games, having won the 20 km skiathlon and men’s sprint earlier. That brought his total to eight Olympic golds in his career. He won three in 2018, two in 2022 (plus a silver and bronze) and now three more. The eight career golds tie three other Norwegians for the most career Winter Olympic golds. (Michael Phelps holds the overall Olympic record with 23 golds in the Summer Olympics). Klaebo could very well break the Winter Olympic career record as he is scheduled for three more events.
Here’s a link to highlights of his record tying race.
Klaebo has dominated in his World Cup career with 107 wins and 136 total podiums in 189 starts, and has won nine of 11 in team events. He has five overall titles in 11 seasons.
