Golden State Completes Comeback to Return to NBA Finals

The Oklahoma City Thunder had the defending champs on the brink of elimination, down 3-1 in the Western Conference Finals, but in the end, there was just too much Klay Thompson and too much Stephen Curry for them to handle. The Golden State Warriors beat the Thunder 96-88 on Memorial Day and will defend their NBA title in the Finals starting June 1st in Oakland. The opponent will again be the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Thompson scored 41 points in Game 6, hitting a playoff record 11 three point baskets as the Warriors beat the Thunder in Oklahoma City 108-101. Curry just missed a triple double, with 31 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. Oklahoma City was just 3 of 23 in three point shots. That sent the series back to California for the decisive Game 7, and the Warriors’ home floor where they were darn near invincible this season.

The Thunder had a 48-42 halftime lead in Game 7, but that melted away in the second half. The Thunder again had trouble shooting beyond the arc (7-27 on the night), but Golden State played some pretty good defense, too, and Oklahoma City managed just 12 points in the third quarter. Curry led the way for Golden State, scoring 36 points and appearing unstoppable in the fourth quarter.

So for the second year in a row, we will see the two best players in the NBA, LeBron James and Stephen Curry, battle it out for the NBA Championship.
