Giants Beat Cubs With 9 Runs in the 11th Inning
The Chicago Cubs scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the San Francisco Giants 5-5 on May 6th at Wrigley Field. After a scoreless 10th inning, the Cubs brought in closer Ryan Pressly to pitch the 11th inning. And with that, the wheels came off.
The Giants scored nine runs in the 11th and went on to win 14-5. Pressley gave up all nine runs (eight earned) without retiring a batter. His ERA ballooned to 7.62 on the season. Heliot Ramos led the way for the Giants, going four of five with two RBIs. Jung Hoo Lee and Patrick Bailey each drove in three runs.
Despite this embarrassment, the Cubs are off to a good start, and lead the NL Central with a 22-15 record, and are three games ahead of second place Milwaukee. The Giants are 23-14 and are in third place 1 ½ games behind the Dodgers and one game behind San Diego in the highly competitive NL West (standings as of close of action on May 6th).
