Final Jeopardy: 20th Century Scientists (6-19-15)
Today’s Final Jeopardy question (6/19/2015), in the category “20th Century Scientists” was:
Everything changed in 1924 after he observed “I have found a Cepheid variable in the Andromeda Nebula.”
4x champ Brennan Bushee has racked up $102,403 this week. In the last game of the week, he takes on these two players: Jennifer Shepherd, originally from Port Orange, FL; and Chad Capule, from Cheverly, MD.
Round 1: Brennan found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Classical Music” under the $1,000 clue. He was in second place with $2,600, $600 less than Jennifer’s lead. He made it a true Daily Double and thought it was “valiente”. That was WRONG.

Jennifer finished in the lead with $5,600. Chad was second with $2,800 and Brennan was last with $1,600.
Round 2: Chad found the first Daily Double in “U.S. Place Name Changes” under the $2,000 clue. He was in second place with $8,800, $1,200 behind Brennan’s lead. He bet $2,000 and he was RIGHT.

Jennifer got the last Daily Double in “Bronte-saurus” under the $2,000 clue, the very last clue of the round. So far, the players were stumped by every clue in this category. She was in second place with $10,200, $2,400 less than Brennan’s lead. She bet $2,000 and she was RIGHT.
This heroine is asked, can’t you do better than to devote yourself to “a blind lameter” (cripple)? show
Brennan finished in the lead with $12,400. Jennifer was next with $12,000 and Chad was in third place with $9,200.
ALL of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
“Edwin Hubble is known for revolutionizing our view of the universe. Before Hubble, everyone believed that the universe was composed of one vast island of stars, the Milky Way. Everything that we saw was within it. However, Edwin Hubble was able to show that what people thought were “spiral nebulae” were actually other islands of stars that lay far beyond the breadth of our own galaxy. Besides this, Hubble was able to use the technique he had employed to prove the existence of galaxies to show that the entire universe was expanding.” (Journey Through the Galaxy)
Chad bet $1,800 and finished with $11,000.
Jennifer bet $11,500, bringing her up to $23,500.
Brennan bet $11,601 bet so he won this match with $24,001. His 5-day total is $126,404. Kudos to Brennan on winning every game this week. Great job!
During the chat, Trebek mentioned that Brennan has not done much traveling in his young life. Brennan said that, so far, the only place he has been to outside the USA is Montreal. However, that could very well change now that he’s flush.

I am thrilled Brennan got his 5th win. He’s an intelligent, unassuming young man. I am always aware of contestant appearance. I am wondering if Brennan wears a hair piece? His hair is styled, and lays exactly the same each evening.
It may prove helpful to remember that they shoot a week’s worth of games in one day. What you’re actually seeing is the hair from the same day. I guess one really hopes not to have a bad hair day (although I would guess there is help when needed).
I’m very happy Brennan is guaranteed a spot in the TOC. Congrats! I was holding my breath during FJ until his answer and wager was revealed. Uff!
Now I found that first DD clue weird. Maybe Brennan thought it was a trick question, the answer being so obvious. The word heroic in the clue kinda gave away the answer imo.
Cece, I’m happy for Brennan also. Smart young man.
Why didn’t Jennifer bet 2401 on her daily double?
@Marilyn, my exact question. Weird.
That’s not enough. Her range should be to leave a dollar more than half of the leader’s possible amount to covering the leader plus the amounts of the clues left. As aaaa states above, 2801 should have been her minimum amount.
@Eric, Her penultimate wager was 2000. If she had wagered 401 more, her minimum wager would have been 2401 and not 2801.
Btw, Keith has stated her minimum wager should have been 2401.
Ah. My mistake and I apologize. I took penultimate to mean in that round. I guess it just didn’t compute that she could make that elementary of a mistake.
Lol. I should have know both you and Marilyn wouldn’t be wrong!
Wow! Jennifer blew it on the penultimate wager. Why not 2401? Can’t wait to see Keith’s video on this wager. Guarantee he’ll have a drink in his hand. LOL
Brennan’s comeback from being so far behind at the end of round 1 in round 2 reminded me of the GS Warriors playing the Cavs in the NBA finals. What a way to go Brennan! Congrats!
Nice week on fj clues. 13/15? Not a bad percentage. 86.7%.
can’t really blame her in one way– they were striking out big-time in that category. Then the easiest clue is a DD under $2K.
On the other hand, yeah, since she was willing to go as high as $2K to begin with, why not go for the lead. Ah, well.
That category where they made up biography names was fun. Not-so-curious George. LOL.
@vj, told you young people don’t get tired. Although did you notice how deep in thought Brennan was at the end of round 2 when he saw Jennifer’s score? Remember he was a Math/Computer Science major. So he already was figuring out how much to wager.
Btw, congrats on your prediction. I almost forgot. So caught up in the wagering weirdness in this game.
Thanks. Congrats to Eric, he picked a triple sweep before me
You’re way too kind. When I saw the clue, the answer followed on the bottom. My guess was 1 right. Lol. Too bad for me it wasn’t a DD.
