WHO IS LAURA INGALLS WILDER?

“One of the most coveted books of the season is not a thriller or a celebrity tell-all but an oversize, 472-page annotated autobiography with hundreds of detailed notes and several appendixes. It weighs roughly three pounds and is printed on specially cut paper…. The book is ‘Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography,’ an expanded version of a memoir by celebrated ‘Little House on the Prairie’ author Laura Ingalls Wilder. Wilder herself couldn’t find a publisher for the memoir 85 years ago. So, working with her daughter, she used it as the basis for the series of novels still so popular today….” (Washington Post)

Ian thought it was (Louisa May) Alcott. He lost his $6,100 bet and finished with $100.

Megan got it right. She bet $6,201 and finished with $14,801.

Brennan also got it right. He bet $2,401 so he won this match with $17,201. His 4-day total is $102,403.

Another big payday for Brennan, its unfortunate that he missed the Cisco answer but still congrats to him for a well played game. its been a while since we had a 4 time champion since Elliot Yates and Cathryn Hardee

Dan Feitel won his 5th game on June 1st. Andrew Haringer won five games in May. Greg Seroka won his 7th game May 1st. Alex Jacob won six games in April.

Seeing pioneer in the clue could have been negative for Willa Cather and O Pioneers.

@vj, I bet you fell out of your chair over the Jackson 5 miss.

I can cut them some slack on the Jamie Dimon and JP Morgan Chase ts though. Not most people are into business news I’ve discovered. I’m in the minority on the zest and zeal for that I’ve learned.

    • VJ says:

LOL. I was actually hearing the Jackson 5 version in my head when they showed the clue. But then I got my comeuppance when I forgot James Taylor’s Handy Man myself.

Oh, well. Jimmy Jones is my favorite on that, despite Del Shannon’s being the first one I ever heard. (We have a theory that most of the time, you will favor the version of a song you heard first).

      • jacob ska says:

Your theory is correct imo. Dolly Parton who wrote and sang “I Will Always Love You” sticks in my mind no matter how many times I heard the late Whitney Houston sing the song.

Dolly was smart not to sell the rights to that song. She’s a smart person and too many underestimate her business acumen.

        • VJ says:

Same here. I used to watch Dolly’s TV show before she became a megastar and she always sang that song to sign off. It will always be my favorite version.

Here’s an exception I know — my older kids first heard “I Think We’re Alone Now” by Tiffany, but they deemed the Tommy James original better when I played it for them.

        • Eric S says:

Lol. VJ, great example, but an easy call. For me, it’s Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen.

You go Brennan! Congrats big time!

Surprised he got Cisco incorrect given he has a Dual Degree in Computer Science and Math. John Chambers and Cisco go hand in hand for 20+ years. John is getting ready to retire soon at age 65.

I think it was just brain fog.

    • VJ says:

yes I was surprised about that Cisco miss. Before I saw the clue, I was saying don’t throw away your lead, man! Then I saw the clue and thought sure he’d get it…

Wow, that was an up and down game.

@Eric – congrats on the right prediction!

      • Eric S says:

Thank you. It was strictly a percentage play. It did look like a strong candidate for a triple solve, though.
