The FJ clue had a hint: “this scientist”, vs “his”. It was NOT a “dead giveaway”, as I first thought of Wilhelm Röntgen, who won the first Nobel in Physics in 1901, for the discovery of X-rays in 1895. But, then, I came up with the correct answer.
1/3 on DD. I concur (as per usual) with Howard. The game began with promise, and became a dud.
There’s some debate today on the contestants’ FB page whether “Curie” alone would have been accepted. Apparently they are sometimes told during the break to “be specific” and nothing more than that. Seems to me Ken J won his first game by answering “Johnson” (or similar) and getting away with it.
idk what I’m missing, but the game started out with a triple stumper. Not too long after that they went through the 3 Ts category. I wouldn’t have thought anything about that category if the Oscar Wilde quote had been the only TS.
I did get that one but I post quotes every day. Even so, I can’t say Wilde’s quotes are among my favorites.
I beg to differ, but the clue in “some papers stored in lead boxes” had nailed it right on the head. I mean, it was a well known fact that Madame Curie died of radium poisoning. So who else could it have possible been? In fact, I came up with the correct response rather quickly.
As I said, Röntgen. That could be another viable response.
You sound really dogmatic. There is, sometimes, occasion for nuance.
What started out as a decent game evolved into a dud. Molly was up and down more than Macy’s NYC elevators during the holidays. DDs were difficult for me, FJ was not.
I thought some of the stumpers were very knowable. Washington public works project; Oscar Wilde’s lack of resistance; CIA director/pianist; 4-letter beginner (good crossword word); opera writer in Triple Ts.
Although I missed part of the game due to a weather report interruption, it was still another fantastic game with a FJ dead giveaway to boot.
