Duets Finale: No Surprise, J Rome Wins
J Rome won the big prize — a recording contract with Hollywood Records — on the finale of Duets. And, yeah, it would have been pretty odd if J Rome did not win. After all, he was the frontrunner throughout the entire season.
Mentor, Jennifer Nettles, was covered twice with both her amateurs in the Top 3 and Kelly Clarkson had Jason Farol in there, so they brought back Bridget Carrington so John Legend would have someone to sing with and they performed the Rolling Stones “Gimme Shelter.” For Robin Thicke, they brought back Olivia Chisholm for a “‘Fever” duet.
The Final 3 turned in their final performances which had no bearing on the results. They were already in.
John Glosson and Jennifer Nettles sang “For Good” from the Broadway musical Wicked.
Jason Farol and Kelly Clarkson sang Elvis Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel.”
J Rome and Jennifer Nettles sang DeBarge’s “Rhythm of the Night.”
When all was said and done, the results were revealed and Jason Farol came in third. Jennifer Nettles two amateurs J Rome and Glosson were the best voices on the show, there is no doubt about that. And J Rome was the winner, which is as it should be — no doubt about that either since he proved himself to be the most versatile. So we should be hearing more from J Rome soon, and sooner or later, we figure someone is gonna find out his real name. We’re guessing it’s Jerome something.
But we don’t know if there will be a Season Two of Duets. As we have said before, the format certainly has its good points. If they do bring it back, let’s hope they revamp the voting system.
