Clemson Clobbers Alabama to Win College Football Championship

Clemson won its second college football national title game in three years, soundly defeating Alabama 44-16 in Santa Clara, California on January 7th. Both wins were over the Crimson Tide, but this one was in dominating fashion, as opposed to the last second win of three years ago.

Clemson freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence passed for 347 yards and three touchdowns, with no interceptions. Lawrence’s favorite target was another freshman, WR Justin Ross, who caught six passes for 153 yards and a touchdown. Clemson’s Travis Etienne rushed for 86 yards on 14 carries, and scored two touchdowns. But it wasn’t just the Tiger’s offense that was dominating, the defense allowed just three points in the second quarter and none in the second half. Alabama was extremely un-Alabama like in this game. But then again, the Crimson Tide isn’t used to playing from behind, at least not playing when trailing by large margins.

Clemson finishes at 15-0, while Alabama ends at 14-1. Clemson will begin its quest for another crown on August 29th at home against Georgia Tech. Alabama will have the summer to ponder this game before opening against Duke in Atlanta on August 31st.
