Ashton Eaton Breaks World Record in Decathlon at World Track Championships
Defending Olympic champion Ashton Eaton won the Decathlon at the 2015 World Track Championships in Beijing, and broke his own world record in the process. Eaton had 9045 total points in the 10 event decathlon, breaking the previous record of 9039 he set during the 2012 Olympic trials.
Eaton finished 1st in three events–the 100 meters, 400 meters, and long jump. He finished 2nd in the 110 meter hurdles and the final event, the 1500 meter run.
Eaton is at the top of his game and will no doubt be the favorite in the 2016 Olympics in Rio, just 11 months from now. The last man win back to back golds in the Olympic decathlon was Great Britain’s Daley Thompson, who won in 1980 and 1984.
