Apologies of the Week
Gatorade apologized for snarky tweets directed at LeBron James when the Heat superstar suffered from leg cramps during last Thursday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs. One of the (now deleted) tweets said “”We were waiting on the sidelines, but he prefers to drink something else,” (LeBron endorses Powerade.) Another said “The person cramping wasn’t our client. Our athletes can take the heat.” Gatorade claimed it got carried away in the heat of the battle.
The White House apologized to top senators for failing to notify them of the Gitmo prisoners swap to secure the release of Bowe Bergdahl.
Pharrell Williams apologized for wearing a feathered headdress on the cover of Elle UK. “I respect and honor every kind of race, background and culture,” he said, “I am genuinely sorry.”
Actor Jonah Hill apologized profusely for the use of a homophobic slur last weekend during a paparazzi encounter — three times: on Howard Stern, on Jimmy Fallon and at the “22 Jump Street” press day in New York.
Pop star, Justin Bieber apologized for a video that popped up on the net showing him making racist remarks. Then a second video popped up and he apologized for that too. In the first one, the Biebs was about 17. In the second, he was 14. He chalked his behavior up to his youthful ignorance, calling it a childish and inexcusable mistake. “I was a kid then and I am a man now who knows my responsibility to the world and to not make that mistake again.”
Speaking of kids and being sorry, did you ever hear Brenda Lee’s No. 1 hit “I’m Sorry” from 1960. She was only 15 years old then. What a voice!
