Hannah found the first Daily Double in “Religion” under the $2,000 clue on the 7th pick of this round. In third place with $4,000 she had $1,600 less than Sam’s lead. She bet $3,500 and she was RIGHT.

WHAT IS “THE METAMORPHOSIS”?

The New Yorker has an essay about translating Kafka’s novel. Concerning the title, Susan Bernofsky says: “… Unlike the English “metamorphosis,” the German word Verwandlung does not suggest a natural change of state associated with the animal kingdom such as the change from caterpillar to butterfly. Instead it is a word from fairy tales used to describe the transformation, say, of a girl’s seven brothers into swans. But the word “metamorphosis” refers to this, too; its first definition in the Oxford English Dictionary is “The action or process of changing in form, shape, or substance; esp. transformation by supernatural means.” This is the sense in which it’s used, for instance, in translations of Ovid.”

Emily bet $4,001 bet and finished with $9,101.

Hannah bet it all. That brought her up to $18,200.

Sam bet $5,401 bet so he won the second semi-final spot with $18,201.
