#5 Georgia Beats #3 Clemson As College Football Returns

Labor Day Weekend marked the first full weekend of the college football season, and a much anticipated matchup between the #5 Georgia Bulldogs and the #3 Clemson Tigers was one of the feature games on the docket. If you are a fan of high scoring, lots of offense football games, then this one wasn’t for you. If you like a grind it out defensive contest, this was a good one as the Bulldogs beat the Tigers 10-3.

This was the first game of the post Trevor Lawrence quarterback era at Clemson, with D.J. Uiagalelei taking over under center. He completed 19 of 37 passes for 178 yards. He also allowed the only touchdown of the game, on an interception and 74 yard touchdown return by Christopher Smith. Clemson was held to just two yards rushing on 23 attempts. Georgia had 135 receiving and 121 rushing yards, not huge numbers, but it was enough when coupled with that stifling Bulldog defense.

Georgia is looking to dethrone Alabama as SEC Champions. Since they are in separate divisions of the conference, the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide don’t meet every year during the regular season, and this is one of those years. If they meet this season, it will be in the SEC Championship Game on December 4th. Speaking of Alabama, the defending national champ showed why it was the preseason #1 school in the polls by opening the season with a 44-13 blowout of #14 Miami. The Tide had 501 total yards in the game.
