What Kellie Pickler’s Up to Now
While another one of their own, Scotty McCreery of Garner, gets ready to compete for the title of “the American Idol” this week, WCNC News in Charlotte caught up with another hometown singer who made good on the popular FOX show. Albemarle native Kellie Pickler finished in 6th place in Season 5 of American Idol.
“It’s wild to think of how much has happened. I’ve been so blessed since ‘Idol.’ It’s been kind of a rollercoaster ride I haven’t got off. I don’t ever want to get off of it,” Pickler says, who now lives in Nashville, TN with her husband, Kyle Jacobs.
She returned to Charlotte this past April for a special Make-A-Wish fundraiser and private concert at the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
“It’s always wonderful when I get to come back home,” she said. “Every time I come home to North Carolina, it makes me feel so good to know people here are lifting me up. It means a lot to me.”
North Carolina actually had three contestants in the Top 10 in Season 5. Bucky Covington of Rockingham finished 8th, and Chris Daughtry of Roanoke Rapids. In Season 2, Clay Aikens of Raleigh came in second, and in Season 3, Fantasia Barrino of High Point won!
Looks like the Tar Heel State is about to get is second American Idol winner this week.
