Jeopardy! champs for the week of October 29, 2018

Jonathan Greenan returned on Monday, only to be defeated by Mary Ann Borer. She won the next game and will be back the week after next. Mary Ann had such a big payday on Monday that she went to the head of this season’s Top 10 list.

Maya Wright scored over $25,000 on Wednesday. That earned her a semi-final spot worth a guaranteed $10,000. Caleb Richmond and Audrey Satchivi also won semi-final spots. Emma Arnold ($18,400) and Claire Sattler ($16,999) have the most viable scores for Wild Cards at this point. Everyone else scored $3,600 or less. Unless no one beats the $3,600 next week, those students will all go home with $5,000.

The Thu clue was the hardest for the TT players. Had it been a CT, TT (teachers) or regular game I am pretty sure we would have seen 2 or even 3 correct. The French name of the horse, “the way home” “from ” Russia and the year were 4 hints in a relatively short clue.
So even more of a positive result for Caleb, getting it right.Since it said “home from Russia” it could not have been a Russian (Tolstoy or any Nicholas). Caleb applied logic there by eliminating any Russian and the year was obviously enough for him to get Bonaparte. I can only congratulate him again , good job!! He might be to be reckoned with as the tournament progresses, since he was able to “chain” the clues within the clue correctly together respectively not go with any Russian and knowledge plus logic are very important for any player, regardless of what age group s/he is in.
A strange week nevertheless, as VJ said, even though we had 2 different groups. Regular players and teenagers. I can’t remember any week- a calendar week to boot – where Three times only 2 players were left for FJ and J is always good for strange scenarios ( only one player left for FJ, a lady , if I remember that correctly or another contestant – I believe in the armed forces- winning the match with $1.00).
And the ladies seem to have the upper hand so far – actually they DO have it. Out of three winners and 2 pretty sure WC spots ( so 5 altogether so far) we have 4 girls and only one guy. I am curious whether that trend will continue Mon and /or Tue. ?
And the Thu clue with Napoleon was at least in my opinion not appropriate for a tournament for tenagers. Rather college and certainly ” regular” games but you had to have already the Napoleonic wars in school to have a realistic chance for that one, so even more a “bravo” for Caleb there, being “just” a sophomore. My feeling is that the clue writers slipped into “adult” territory here (and I don’t mean THAT “adult” variety..🤣🤣)
As far as Mary Ann is concerned, I wonder whether the break will be a good or bad thing for her. It might make her lose her momentum or she might carry over some positive experiences from her first 2 games, avoiding mistakes she might have made though she proved herself pretty well in the first 2 games.
