WHO IS Q?

“Q” was James Bond’s “gadget geek” or quartermaster in the James Bond film series. At the 2017 Women I.T. Awards, the current head of MI6 (British Intelligence Services), Alex Young, wanted folks to know that the real-life Q is a woman. He encouraged women to join the intelligence services, noting “that we in MI6 draw on the full range of talent that our country has to offer.” Young felt that popular culture reinforces a male stereotype in the field of espionage and believes “we’ve got to get over and see through the Bond thing…”

Dennis wrote down M. He lost his $2,564 bet and finished with $836.

Tina had the same response as Dennis. That cost her $600, leaving her $6,000.

Austin got it right. He bet $10,000 (hello! as Alex likes to say) and won the match with $36,000. Way to go, Austin! He’s the new Jeopardy! champ.

Time for a serial winner—we had one at the beginning of the last 2 seasons, so why not now?

These lucky players didn’t have to spell Scheherazade.

  2. Alfred Robert Hogan, M.A. says:

I surprised myself with a lucky surmise of What is Q? I never have seen, nor ever will I, a James Bond film. I only attend G-rated films plus a very occasional PG, with scrutiny and reluctance. I also despise all evil spies (who should not exist — even fictional ones).

    Wasn’t Buzzy’s real name Austin?

  4. William Weyser says:

Austin was a lot of fun to watch between the 2 $6,500 Daily Double wagers, the hand gestures, and him picking the buzzer up after he got the Tootsie Roll Daily Double right, and saying ”I might need this”.

    • William Weyser says:

I watched that clip again, and I realized that Austin just said ”I need this”, not ”I might need this” after he dropped the buzzer. My mistake.

  5. Rani says:

Is now too challeging. Too bad could at least guess & answer 30 percent before.

  6. Lou says:

Well we could see a possible big streak winner from Austin just like Matt and Seth. also, I still can’t believe that the other two contestants never watched James Bond movies. What was one of your favorite bond movie in the series so far, VJ? the quantum Solace, Skyfall, casino Royale, Octopussy? Q was played by two other actors one was Desmond llwelyn but he perished in a car accident. Then there was john cleese as Q and now ralph Finnes. congrats to Austin in getting the answer. Also I wonder if your kids were fans of the Jame bond games like nightfire and everything or nothing?

    • VJ says:

@Lou, I don’t think there are any big Bond fans in my family. The only film I even remember seeing all the way through is “Goldfinger.”

Yes, Austin could go on a real sweet winning streak and rack up the big bucks. It would be nice to see.
