3x champ Marty Cunningham scored another win yesterday, and he’s up to $65,900 now. In his 4th game, his challengers are: Emily Deckenback, from San Bruno, CA; and Frank Lang, from Mesa, AZ.

Marty found the last Daily Double in “Novel ‘T’s” under the $1,600 clue on the 14th pick. In second place with $3,800, he had $1,000 less than Frank’s lead. He bet $2,000 and took a guess with The Therapist’s Wife. That was WRONG.

Frank finished in the lead with $16,000. Marty was next with $9,000 and Emily was in third place with $3,800.

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS “THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES”?

The $350 million listing of the Bel Air estate that served as the exterior of the Clampett’s mansion in “The Beverly Hillbillies” was widely reported on in August 2017, as the most expensive listing in the USA. Owned by the Estate of Jerry Perenchio, one-time CEO of Univision, who renamed it Chartwell, in TV fandom, it will likely continue to be called the Kirkeby mansion.

Arnold Kirkeby and his wife, Carlotta purchased the property in 1945 for about $250,000. Arnold Kirkeby died in a plane crash on 3/1/1962 and never saw the debut of “The Beverly Hillbillies” on TV on 9/26/1962. His family continued to rent the property to the show for $500 a day. The mansion had previously been used in a 1960 Jerry Lewis comedy, “Cinderfella.” Check out Iamnotastalker.com for a comprehensive look at all the films that the property has appeared in (the interior was used in some).

Emily had “The Brady Bunch.” She lost her $200 bet, leaving her $3,600.

Marty got it right. He bet $8,000, bringing him up to $17,000.

Frank also got it. He bet $6,999. That brought him up to $22,999 and made him the new Jeopardy! champ.

I tried to find the answer to the Jay Leno question about what car he would like to buy, but couldn’t find the link. Did any of you?

    • VJ says:

Maybe it’s just not up on their website yet, Lenda. I couldn’t find it either.

      • Dalton Higbee says:

It’s still not up on the Jeopardy.com website. What do I do?

        • VJ says:

It is, Dalton. It’s the first post (right now) on JBuzz! right under the picture of Trebek and his wife. What Jay Leno said is right in the beginning of the video

  2. Lou says:

Well, Marty did his best, that’s what counts, still though the beverly hillbillies will always be my favorite show on television. Plus VJ, do you watch old classical 80s or 90s comedy shows like Roseanne, Home improvement or maybe Three’s company?

Oh just so you know I arrived in china yesterday morning. the flight was long but it was worth it.

    • VJ says:

@Lou, glad you had a safe flight. I don’t watch reruns much but if I do, it’s usually Law & Order (the original series) or Bonanza.

Out of the 3 you mentioned, I probably saw more episodes of Three’s Company than the other two. And I probably saw more episodes of Full House (you got it dude!) than all 3. I was into the nighttime soaps in the 80s big-time, but never even watched them in reruns.

If they’d saved the Leno category for last, or at least one clue in it, they’d have gotten all 30 clues in in the first round and DJ! would have a few unrevealed clues. Marty broke the lock game on the 30th clue of DJ!

  4. rhonda says:

VJ, for the Historic Objects FJ, you have “What is Historic Objects?” as the answer.

  5. VJ says:

I’m kind of hoping if they visit Jay Leno’s garage again, that it’s a feature on JBuzz! rather than another category 🙂

    • Cece says:

Oh, man, those were some long-arse clues!

      • VJ says:

@Cece, yeah, they were just too long. Jay Leno was reading them pretty fast, I thought, while Alex seemed to me to be reading some of other clues slower than usual.

@Lenda, they have that “we asked Jay Leno” part up now. It’s on youtube, too. Kind of a non-answer from Jay right at the beginning of the video, then they replay the whole category.
