Ryan found the last Daily Double in “TV Shows in Other Words” under the $1,600 clue. Just the $2,000 clue in the same category was left after it. All the scores changed on a reversal (see below). Ryan still had the lead but with $15,400 now, Justin had $12,200 and Sara had $6,600. Justin finished in the lead with $12,200. Ryan was next with $11,400 and Sara was in third place with $6,600.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS JACK KEROUAC?

In “What the Beats can teach us about writing,” David S. Wills says Jack Kerouac “is best known for his ‘spontaneous prose.’ Essentially, this meant writing quickly and almost unconsciously, without any call for editing…. [William S.] Burroughs had a similar concept, although he referred to it as ‘automatic writing’ and believed the words came from space, whereas Kerouac was instead writing from the heart without the interference of the brain.” You can read the essay (more like outline) here. (The video is shorter!)

Old Clue Ref: Before the reveal, Alex Trebek said “Somebody once commented on his best-seller, “that’s not writing, that’s typing.” That was Truman Capote and it’s been a clue 3 times, the last in 2014 (Writers Hatin’ on Writers).

Sara had F. Scott Fitzgerald, who died in 1940. She lost her $6,500 bet, leaving her with $100.

Ryan got it right. His “Keruac” spelling was okay. He bet $11,399, bringing him up to $22,799.

Justin wrote down Russell. He lost $11,000 and ended up with $1,200. Ryan Fenster is now a 4-day champ with $90,198.

I was really proud of myself for getting 2 of the football answers though the two I knew were because of other pop culture aspects (Landry because of King of the Hill and the $1000 question because of a crossword puzzle).

great game tonite first time never saw a category not answered

    • VJ says:

@john, coincidentally, I put up the clues from the last time that happened (at least, to my memory) on last Monday’s Spoiler Talk post and they are still there. It was 4/13/2016 and the category was Central American Capitals. Besides the category, one clue was a Daily Double, so it’s not exactly the same, but that was a miss, too.

  3. Louis says:

Oh by the way VJ that football category was so funny, still it’s unbelievable that none of the contestants are football fans but Alex had some great jokes like if you guys get this one.I will die. LOL. Speaking of football, are you excited about the superbowl, VJ?

  4. Louis says:

More reversals today, still Ryan knows what he is doing out there. But I can’t believe Justin bet big. Did he lose on purpose today and who was this Russell author, VJ? He is an English teacher so he should have gotten Kerouac. Congrats to Ryan on his fourth win and I can predict a streak going on for him. So far this month has been great so far for Gilbert Collins, Rachel Lindgren, and Ryan Fenster as he now joins the tournament of champions.

    • VJ says:

idk who Justin was referring to, Lou. The only one I could think of was Bertrand Russell but he’s British. But, yeah, hooray for Ryan. Here’s hoping he wins his 5th game tomorrow.

On those TV shows, I haven’t heard toes referred to as “tootsies” in a long long time! I call them “piggies” – wee wee wee. 😀

On the Super Bowl, I don’t follow football, I just eat the food
