ALL of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS THE 1812 OVERTURE?

“In 1880, Tchaikovsky’s friend, Nikolai Rubinstein, suggested that he should compose a grand work with intentions for its use at a number of upcoming events including the completion of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour (which also served as a memorial commemorating Russia’s victory in the French Invasion of Russia), the 25th anniversary of Emperor Alexander II’s coronation, and the Moscow Arts and Industry Exhibition of 1882. In October that same year, Tchaikovsky began composing the work and completed it six weeks later.” Excerpt from Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture by Aaron Green on ThoughtCo, which also explains why the piece is used on Independence Day in the USA.

Hunter didn’t bet anything, so his score stayed at $1,400.

Pranjal bet $1,401, finishing with $16,401.

Buzzy went for the gusto with a $13,600 bet. He won the match with $30,000 and is the first semi-finalist. Great game! Pranjal is looking good for a Wild Card.

Dear Cindy, I am glad that Jeopardy is honoring her memory this way.

  2. VJ says:

Wow, I was rooting for Buzzy to win and I loved it when he made the self-congratulatory cheering gestures at the end. I don’t know the word for it. I asked my kith and kin over here, and my daughter said “that’s something only you do,” but what I was showing her was the show your muscles move. When we looked at it again, Buzzy did it with his hands clasped.

I just read an article by Alex Jacob, who is predicting Austin to win the whole tournament, based upon “the AJ score,” which stands for Average Jeopardy Score, or it could stand for score calculated by Alex Jacob 🙂 Either way, Buzzy was not on his prediction radar even for a Wild Card.

So glad to see that Buzz and, pranjal scored big on the first game. Tchaikovsky has many more great songs like swan lake, nutcracker etc. Furthermore are you a fan of classical music masters like verdi, Mozart, and Tchaikovsky, VJ?

    • VJ says:

@Lou, like Bob Seger, my musical tastes run more to that Old Time Rock and Roll, but I am more of a song person. I like a lot of songs, esp ones that everyone can sing along to.
