WHO IS OLIVER TWIST?

On Oliver’s 9th birthday, in Chapter 2 of Dickens’ “The Adventures of Oliver Twist”, Mr. Bumble the beadle explained to Mrs. Mann how he “inwented” the orphaned Oliver’s name: “We name our fondlings in alphabetical order. The last was a S,- Swubble, I named him. This was a T,- Twist, I named him. The next one as comes will be Unwin, and the next Vilkins. I have got names ready made to the end of the alphabet, and all the way through it again, when we come to Z.”

Jennifer got it right. She doubled her score to $9,200.

Jesse thought it was Tom Thumb. He lost his $4,800 bet, finishing with $5,400.

We have no Jeopardy here because of football, so annoying.

    • Lou says:

Same here, Rhonda, jeopardy is preempted here due to football. I really don’t watch that much of football because if there are still constant interruptions of game shows like jeopardy or wheel, I could lose it at any moment. Just let this football season be over and done with.

      • rhonda says:

Sorry you don’t have it either, Lou. I don’t care for football at all, especially when it interferes with Jeopardy!

    • VJ says:

Well, I’ve got some more clues for you to take a crack at now, and hopefully, they will air the game later

This is one of my favorite books and I remember watching the movie back in middle school. One of my favorite Oliver Twist characters was Fagin who helped Oliver after he was thrown out. I hope you have kids that have favorite Charles Dickens novels, VJ.

    • VJ says:

@Lou, my son likes the musical Oliver! a lot. Fagin’s songs were great in that.

Crazy Coincidence: the lady who won almost $70K on Wheel of Fortune yesterday is from the same town in Indiana as Marcus. I wouldn’t have even noticed that except when Pat Sajak spoke to her, he brought up that you don’t pronounce the Y in the town’s name and asked “Why don’t they get rid of it?” Anyhow, after this, they will probably be saying the C in Corydon stands for Champ. lol!
