Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS “OUR AMERICAN COUSIN”?

On the night of April l4, 1865 during the performance of “Our American Cousin” at Ford’s Theater in Washington, D.C., actor-turned-assassin John Wilkes Booth carried out his plot to murder President Abraham Lincoln. Booth timed his fatal shot to go off right after this line was uttered on stage by Harry Hawk, the actor playing Asa Trenchard: “Well, I guess I know enough to turn you inside out, old gal — you sockdologizing old man-trap.” He knew that Hawk would be the only actor on the stage and that the line was always met with hearty laughter.

In the play’s final run in 1915 at the Booth Theatre (named for John Wilkes Booth’s brother, Edwin), Asa Trenchard was played by Sydney Mather. It makes one wonder how audiences reacted to that line after 1865.

Steve didn’t have a response. He bet and lost it all.

Tyler had “My American Cousin.” That wrong pronoun cost him $2,201, leaving him with $5,199.

Gilbert got it right. He bet $5,201 so he won the game with $14,801. His 4-day total is $51,400.

Well, I thought that “Casablanca” was another triple miss. It seems that the movie has entered the misty realm of generational questions.

I remember reading that the Germans had known about the impending meeting between Churchill and FDR in Casablanca, but they had decoded the place name as the “Whitehouse”, so they thought that the meeting would be in Washington DC instead of Morocco, since we had not put Casablanca into code and they thought we had. That was a good thing.

@Taiwan Bill, It was another triple miss though I suppose they would get clues about it that mention Bogart and/or Bergman or the song.

The clue is on the 12 more clues list I linked to below — the rest of the triple stumpers in the match, or the majority of them. Sometimes I miss one or two.

Well I had a feeling Gilbert won again but I wonder if this play our American cousin won awards after its showing VJ? Let’s see.If Gilbert can win game 5 tomorrow since rani’s previous run won her 60000 dollars in five games. Plus I really hope Kristin can get into the toc of 2018 since she had won four games last year. By the way, are you a fan of theater plays VJ?
