Yasiel Puig Hits Three Triples in Dodgers’ Victory Over Giants

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig started in center field for the first time this season on July 25th, and marked the occasion by hitting three triples and a double in the Dodgers’ 8-1 win over the Giants in San Francisco.  It was the 47th time in major league history that a player hit three triples in one game; the last time it happened was in 2010 when the Minnesota Twins Denard Span hit three.  The last Dodger to hit three was one Jimmy Sheckard back in 1901.  There have been two games where a player hit four triples, both of which happened back in the 19th century.

The victory pulled the Dodgers to within a half a game of the Giants in the National League West race.
