Tributes to Leonard Nimoy and Mr. Spock From All Over

Actor Leonard Nimoy passed away on Friday, February 27, 2015 at the age of 83, and tributes have poured in from all over to honor the Star Trek icon, from the President of the USA, to his co-star, William Shatner, to Zachary Quinto, the actor who took over the role of the famous Vulcan, Mr. Spock. The New York Times posted this video tribute on youtube:

President Obama said he loved Spock. “Long before being nerdy was cool, there was Leonard Nimoy. Leonard was a lifelong lover of the arts and humanities, a supporter of the sciences, generous with his talent and his time. And of course, Leonard was Spock. Cool, logical, big-eared and level-headed, the center of Star Trek’s optimistic, inclusive vision of humanity’s future,” Obama wrote, mentioning meeting the actor in person in 2007 and greeting him with the Vulcan salute, “the universal sign for ‘Live long and prosper.'”

William Shatner, his long-time co-star as Captain Kirk, wrote: “I loved him like a brother. We will all miss his humor, his talent, and his capacity to love.”

Zachary Quinto left this message on his Instagram: “My heart is broken. I love you profoundly my dear friend. And I will miss you every day. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”

Nimoy’s son Adam told the media that the cause of death was end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The actor had revealed the condition of his health last year, attributing it to smoking, a habit he gave up 30 years earlier. He urged people to quit smoking, warning that once there is lung damage, even quitting can’t help.
