Wide receiver Terrell Owens has found employment in the NFL for the 2010 season. Owens will join his friend Chad Ochocinco on the Cincinnati Bengals. Owens’ deal is for one year at $2 million, with up to $2 million more in incentives. Owens and Ochocinco have the same agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and Chad had urged the Bengals to sign Owens. Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer worked out with Owens and hit it off well, and he too recommended signing the veteran wide out.
Looking to upgrade their receivers, Cincinnati also signed former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Antonio Bryant to a four year contract in the offseason. Bryant has had knee issues that limited his production to 600 receiving yards last season, but in 2008, he had 83 catches for 1248 yards for the Buccaneers.
Both Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens have reality shows on VH-1. Chad has Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch and Terrell has The T.O. Show. Some may question whether the locker room is big enough for these two personalities to peacefully coexist, since both like to have passes thrown their way, but the Bengals are fine with it. Assuming the 36 year old Owens still has something left in the tank and Bryant’s knee problems have cleared up, the Bengals have the potential of a very explosive offense. Carson Palmer will have plenty of targets to throw to, and with their running game led by Cedric Benson, the Bengals figure to rack up the yards and score points in big bunches. But these guys will have to keep their egos in check and work as a team. Bryant and Owens have worn out their welcomes in some previous stops in the league. One way or another, the Cincinnati Bengals will be exciting to watch.
