Suzy Favor Hamilton: Depression Led to Undercover Job

Suzy Favor Hamilton is the best female track athlete ever produced by the state of Wisconsin.  A high school track legend in the middle distances, the then Suzy Favor took her track shoes to the University of Wisconsin, where she again excelled.  She won 23 Big Ten Championships, and was a four time winner of the conference’s Female Athlete of the Year.  They actually named that award after her.  After graduation, she went on to a professional track career.   She also married class mate and college baseball player Mark Hamilton after her 1991 graduation.

With the level of completion much higher on the international scene, Suzy was a competitive athlete but not dominating.  She nonetheless competed in the 1992, 1996, and 2000 Olympics, but did not medal; in fact, she revealed she deliberately fell in a race in the 2000 games when she realized she was not going to win a medal.  She also received a boatload of endorsement offers for all kinds of products, because, frankly, she was so darn cute.

After her active racing career ended, she began a busy second career, continuing with endorsements, as a motivational speaker, and in a real estate business with her husband.  It turns out that All American Suzy had a shocking secret as well. She has been leading a double life.

The Smoking Gun investigated Suzy’s activities closer than most would after a reporter found out up her “undercover” job and revealed that, for the last year, Suzy has been working as a high priced call girl!

She worked for the Haley Heston escort agency out of Las Vegas, operating under the name of “Kelly.” Her busy traveling schedule allowed her to have customers in several cities.

Instead of following the herd and denying, Suzy has readily admitted to and accepted responsibility for her actions, which she has blamed in part on depression.  Her husband was aware of what she was doing and tried to stop her.  “He wasn’t supportive at all” she says.  Gee, we wonder why.  And why in the world would she think no one would figure out who she was?

Suzy apologized via Twitter, announced she was getting psychological help, and said she would make amends and get back to being “a good mother, wife, daughter, and friend” (she has a seven year old daughter).  We’ll see.  She described the business as “exciting”.  All references to her have been removed from her real estate agency’s website.  The marriage is hanging by a thread.  She suffers from depression.  She’ll no doubt lose some, if not most, of her endorsements and spokesperson jobs; her deal with Disney is sure to end.  Will she be able to pull herself out of the abyss?  Or, with her world collapsing,  will the excitement of the sex industry lure her back.

Meanwhile, any guesses as to who will play Suzy in the inevitable TV movie on Lifetime?
