Supporting Cast: Love Songs in the Key of Gallager – Shameless

In the Season 5 finale “Love Songs in the Key of Gallagher,” (Shameless S5 E 12 4/5/15), Ian (Cameron Monaghan) got to meet Monica’s (Chloe Webb) boyfriend, the fantastic, fabulous, incredible Walter, played by Ryan Dorsey.

Ian did not think that meth-cooker Walter was fantastic, fabulous or incredible. Walter wasn’t exactly impressed with Ian either but it didn’t much matter — Ian left and went back to the Gallagher house.

Barak Hardley played the creepy pharmacy clerk who complimented Debbie on her choice of ribbed Trojans. Debbie, as was pointed out by her feckless guardian Fiona, is 14 and on the pill. At least she’s supposed to be. After telling Fiona that she is pregnant, she went to the drugstore to get a pregnancy test. The age of consent in Illinois, if you’re interested, is actually 17 years old but it is perfectly legal for younger kids to buy condoms. SexEtc.org says that in Illinois, “Teens of any age can buy condoms from a drugstore, pharmacy, grocery store, or even online.” Looks like she wasted the money on the condoms since her pregnancy test results made her smile and a positive result was what she wanted. If she is pregnant, is there any chance the baby is Matty’s?

Dana Lyn Baron played the LPN at the clinic who got a little impatient with Kev’s (Steve Howie) inability to just put a number on how many sexual partners he had in the last 12 months. She wasn’t half as shocked as V (Shanola Hampton) was to hear about the “poophole loophole,” but it did look like the Rapewalker was a new one to her.

Other notes from the finale:

  • Carol wasn’t sympathizing with V about Kev’s infidelities, reminding V that she threw her man out: “A thirsty man coming out of the desert is bound to take a drink. A man only has one kind of camel to ride for many years. That camel run off. He gonna try to take a few other rides out for a a spin before he decides which one he’s gonna drive off the lot.” V thought that was “like 15 different insulting metaphors all mashed up into one incredibly nasty sentence.” Carol’s motherly advice to dress up like a school girl didn’t work out the way it was intended to, but things did work out with Kev and V when he finally put her needs before the twins.
  • Gus didn’t want to stay over Chez Gallagher and told Fiona: “Your bed sucks.” She responded that she never had complaints before. “You probably shouldn’t be reminding your husband about how many men have tried out your mattress,” he replied but that was lost on Fiona who then said: “So you’ll stay?” He didn’t.
  • Ronaldo (Hugo Bianqui), the guy who was plucking a chicken, gave Frank a lead on a skinny Brazilian in a Neymar jersey as the man to buy a pistol from. Bianca thought it would be easy to shoot herself but after a game of Russian Roulette and another attempt, she had to find an alternative way to end her life before cancer did.
