Supporting Cast: Iron City – Shameless

We are wondering about the future of two characters in particular on Shameless, and neither is Fiona (Emmy Rossum). As we were saying in the Iron City recap, Mike Pratt (Jake McDorman) has been sending mixed signals. As her betrayed ex-boyfriend (with his brother!), he doesn’t want to see her anymore, yet he put his condo up to bail her out of jail. At this point, he can’t possibly know his brother Robbie (Nick Gehlfuss) brought the cocaine to Fiona’s house, because Carl (Ethan Cutkowksy) asked him to bail out Fiona and Carl did not know about Robbie. However, should Mike find out, wouldn’t he think that Fiona and Robbie were having a little after-party (after he found out about their relationship) and laughing at him. Fiona definitely has a credibility problem. We don’t know yet if she has a lack of income problem. If she loses her job at Worldwide Cup, how can she pay Mike back?

Emily-Bergl

There seemed to be some confusion over who Sammi’s (Emily Bergl) mother is. Frank (William H. Macy) thought it was the woman he bent over a dryer at Johnny Walsh’s peyote party. Sammi’s revelation that her mother was small-chested made him think again. Frank is thinking maybe Sammi’s mom is the chick in the port-a-potty at the Rod Stewart concert. This adds to further speculation that Sammi is not really Frank’s daughter. In the coming attractions, Sammi gets very angry about something.

Saidah Arrika EkulonaMaria Vidal

Saidah Arrika Ekulona played Sgt. Fuchs, the officer who stripped Fiona of more than her street clothes. Maria Vidal played Lisa Vidal, Fiona’s public defender. Was that some New York accent or what?

Emmy Rosum’s acting in this was A+, possibly her best ever. She did such a great job of portraying the full emotional weight of everything she was feeling being locked up, but without going over the top into campiness.

Also loved the end scene when she returns home from jail, excited to see her family again, only to find the home empty…just the look on her face ahh you could really just feel it so intensely (and I also thought it was a great choice to use Sydney Wayser’s “Geography” during that scene, it really added to the mood).
