Secret Life: Lies and Byes Recap

Ben confesses. Ashley runs off to Italy without so much as a goodbye kiss for her daddy, let alone Toby. Everyone — and we do mean everyone — is planning a “second” wedding or wedding reception for Amy and Ricky. Little do they know it will be their first — if it ever even takes place because Amy is dead set against it and is very happy just pretending to be married. Ricky, on the other hand, wants to come clean. But he gives in to Anne who pops in at the butcher shop and wants to plan a big wedding to make up for her own elopement. He especially gives in because Amy lied to her mother, saying Ricky is the one who doesn’t want a real wedding. By the end of the episode, Margaret and Shakur are even planning to fly his mother over from India!

Jack does not know that his coach is planning on turning him into the football team’s Tim Tebow. But he’s going to find out soon enough. Grace shows up uninvited to invite Jack to church. She zeroes in on his unhappiness without “a woman he really loves,” but Jack does not want to hear it. He does not want to be Christian and does not want Grace showing up and waving at the coaches. “Have a blessed practice,” Grace says brightly. One coach has high hopes of great press, like their star player still being in love with his high school sweetheart who is still a virgin. Ha! Are they in for a big surprise or what? Grace ain’t no Lolo Jones.

Before leaving campus, Grace runs into Adrian in the book store and blows her mind with the news of the investigation into Omar over Ben’s “pervert” remark. Grace says it doesn’t matter if it’s true. It’s the power of suggestion and people are already talking about it as if it could be true. She’d love to take Adrian and Omar to church and is sure turning to God will help Omar through his travails. Adrian gets fed up with Grace’s Christian lingo, but she does get worried about Omar.

Adrian calls Ben to find out what was going through his mind, but he is at the office of Adrian’s lawyer dad. Ruben signals to Ben to keep mum about where he is and Ben hurriedly hangs up. Ben wants to confess his role in the Bunsen Burner caper to Ruben who does not want to hear it. Ben totally did not get Leo’s suggestion that he blame everything on Dylan, probably because Leo did not draw him a diagram. Seriously, even if Leo did, as the lawyer Ruben gets him says, Ben is an idiot.

And yes, Haylie Duff is playing Ben’s attorney. Last week, they introduced a new pregnant teen, Kathy (played by Cierra Ramirez), but of course, this is Secret Life and they will probably bring in 5 new characters before they get back to her. LOL! Did you see the coming attractions?

A girl named Clementine who Ricky knew in foster care recognizes him. Another new character! But we think Kathy is in the next episode when Ethan tries to hit on her, until he finds out she’s pregnant. Also, Dylan’s buds threaten Ben.

The funniest part of this episode was when Anne went over to see George about Ashley. He is there dancing with Kathleen and says that Anne reminds him of a “jack-in-the-box” at the door. Anne is one mad jack-in-the-box. She is pretty nasty to Kathleen, too, at first. Then George informs her that it was her mother, Mimsy, who gave Ashley the money to go to Italy. Before you know it, Anne and Kathleen are going to cook up the steaks Ricky gave her and they’re all going to have dinner together. George can’t believe his luck – bad luck, that is! Another romantic evening he thought he’d spend with Kathleen out the window.
