Sam Kinison Left Carl LaBove His Child Support Bill

The late comedian Sam Kinison left his friend and fellow comedian quite a belated surprise: Carl says that Sam was the real father of the daughter he thought was his.

We heard about it on The Joy Behar Show where LaBove said he found out that Sam was the father after Sam died.

“I was devastated,” Carl said, “We’re talking about at the time, a 14-year friendship. We started out together. So we had survived living on the streets.

“You know what it’s like to start on comedy. I mean we stole fruit from the bars at night just to eat and slept in my car and, you know, we survived for a very long time and then with the Rodney Dangerfield special, it changed our lives. And of course, Sam became huge and I was his head writer and his best friend. We never lived more than a mile apart.

So that 14-year journey was a phenomenal trip and after he died, I was devastated, obviously, and started my life all over again. And I was separated from my wife a year after Angelica was born. So I paid child support for three years and once — you know, a year after Sam passed, I couldn’t make my bills, so I called my ex to explain to her that I was having a tough time and that’s when she told me that Sam had fathered my child.”

Carl LaBove has not been able to legally establish that Sam Kinison was the child’s father in court because all the blood tests proved was that she was related to the Kinison family. Now with a DNA test, he has definitive proof that Sam was the father.

Now we’re just speculating on this one case right here, not every case, but evidently his ex-wife owned up to the truth when the child was just four. So why didn’t he just didn’t pay the money to the court and then she could give it back to him. You don’t need a court order to voluntarily pay child support, so the executors of Kinison’s estate could have taken care of really supporting the child.

Maybe they did since LaBove didn’t pay it. He says he has lost his driver’s license, passport and more because he wouldn’t pay any of the money which eventually accumulated to a staggering $187,000. We saw that figure mentioned here, but on Joy Behar, he was talking like he paid out money he never got back:

“I’m not looking for them to reimburse me. I want no money from this. I want them to tell the truth to the court so they should take responsibility for Sam`s daughter and I want Sam`s daughter to get her name.”

Guess he’s referring to those first three years he didn’t know. But, the executors of Kinison’s estate wouldn’t owe him the money he paid in the first three years. His old lady would owe him that, wouldn’t she?

Sam Kinison died on April 10, 1992, five days after getting married to Malika Souiri. His white 1989 Pontiac Trans Am was struck on U.S. Route 95, near Needles, California, by a 17-year-old drunk driver in a pickup truck. Sam’s wife was also in the Trans Am, but she survived the accident.

Carl is an amazing person who went through allot as you read- YET is the most spiritual person and taught me allot about life and comedy. What was done to him is horrible, he deserves his life back.
