Saints Draft Mark Ingram; Reggie Bush Probably Done in New Orleans

The New Orleans Saints drafted Alabama running back Mark Ingram with one of their two first round draft picks in the 2011 NFL draft, and that more than likely will put an end to Reggie Bush’s tenure in the Crescent City. “It’s been fun in New Orleans” Reggie tweeted shortly after the selection was made. A few hours later, Reggie tweeted “Congratulations to Mark Ingram on being selected to New Orleans. He will be a great addition to the Saints backfield just as he was at Alabama”.
Based on that, it looks like Bush realizes he is on the way out. Reggie Bush has been a good, but not great, running back for the Saints. He has had injury issues; last season he missed eight games with a broken leg and was active for all 16 regular season games just once in his five years in New Orleans. He could stay and provide some depth at the position, both as a runner and pass catcher, but he would get $11.8 million in salary and bonuses under his contract. He has refused to take a pay cut.
Great players may be able to command that kind of money, but merely good players do not. Still, we expect to see Reggie Bush playing somewhere in the NFL in 2011. For less than $11.8 million.
