Royals’ Danny Duffy Sets Franchise Strikeout Record

Kansas City Royals lefthander Danny Duffy isn’t that well known but he’s emerging as a very good Major League starting pitcher. On August 1st, Duffy set a Royals’ franchise record with 16 strikeouts in Kansas City’s 3-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. The previous record was 15 by Zack Greinke. Duffy allowed just one walk and one hit in eight innings before being relieved by Kelvin Herrera.

Duffy improved to 7-1 on the season, with a 2.98 ERA. He has 126 strikeouts and just 23 walks in 108 2/3 innings pitched. He began the season in the bullpen, and didn’t becomes a starter until mid May. He’s currently the only Royals starting pitcher with a record over .500, which is part of the reason the defending World Series champs are just 50-55 on the season.
