Rockies and Marlins Set Home Run Record

If you hear that there were eight home runs in a Major League baseball game, you’d probably assume the final score was something like 10-6 or 14-9, in general, a higher scoring affair. On June 20th, the Miami Marlins hosted the Colorado Rockies and the two teams combined for eight home runs. The odd thing was, no runners were on base for any of them. The result was a new record for most solo home runs in a game. In fact, all the runs in the game came on those eight solo homers, and the Rockies won 5-3.

Marcell Ozuma of Miami hit two, as did Mark Reynolds of Colorado. It’s not like there were few baserunners in the game. Colorado left 17 men on base, and Miami left 12, so there were plenty of other opportunities to drive in runs.
