Randy Quaid Sues State Department for Passports

Wow, it has been what — about 5 years — since actor Randy Quaid and his wife Evgenia (Evi) left a bunch of legal problems behind them in the USA and ran off to Canada with strange stories about Hollywood Star Whackers, and we have pretty much forgot all about them. But now they are back in the news with more strange behavior — they are suing John Kerry and the State Department to recover their passports that the government revoked 3 years ago.

Randy Quaid, who is 64 years old, says their passports were revoked over “an insurance policy that we did not take out,” but declined to discuss it further. Well, if that’s it, then it must not have anything to do with the felony arrest warrant that was hanging over his head in the USA.

Quaid complained that he can’t go anywhere and his 51-year-old wife said he couldn’t even go to the Cannes Film Festival last year. “We can’t proceed with our life,” she said.

The Houston Chronicle reports that they filed their lawsuit in U.S. District Court in D.C., and cited an email from the State Department saying that, in general, “U.S. citizens who are overseas and have their passports revoked for such reasons as felony arrest warrants or child support debts may request a limited-use passport good only for a direct return to the United States.” That sounds like they didn’t have to file a lawsuit to get a return trip back to the States, but it remains to be seen whether they will be arrested when they come back.
