Queen Elizabeth II Beats Queen Victoria’s Long Reign

Queen Elizabeth II became Britain’s longest-reigning monarch at “At 17:30 BST” according to the BBC. At that time, her reign covered 23,226 days, 16 hours and approximately 30 minutes and surpassed the prior record set by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.

Prime Minister David Cameron said Wednesday that millions of her subjects would celebrate the queen’s “historic moment.”

“Over the last 63 years, Her Majesty has been a rock of stability in a world of constant change and her selfless sense of service and duty has earned admiration not only in Britain, but right across the globe,” Cameron said.

The Queen said that “Inevitably a long life can pass by many milestones – my own is no exception – but I thank you all and the many others at home and overseas for your touching messages of great kindness.” She also said that beating Queen Victoria’s record was never a particular goal of hers. It simply happened because she was the beneficiary of a long life.

The BBC also has a page showing how the many world leaders Queen Elizabeth II has outlasted.
