Phillies Rookie Rhys Hoskins Sets a Home Run Record

Philadelphia Phillies fans haven’t had much to cheer about in the 2017 baseball season with their team having the worst record in the majors at 48-81 through August 27th. But there has been one thing that is keeping the season from being a total washout, and that is the play of rookie left fielder Rhys Hoskins.

Hoskins was in the minors until August 10th, but in the 18 games he’s played in since then, the 24 year old California native has set major league record by hitting 11 home runs in those 18 games. No one has hit that many in so few games. Hoskins hit number 11 in the Phillies August 27th 6-3 win at home over the Chicago Cubs. Defensively, he also started a triple play.

Hoskins hit 29 homers in 115 games for Triple A Lehigh Valley before being called up to Philadelphia. He hit 38 for Double A Reading in 2016, so there’s definitely some pop in his bat.
