Penguins Top Canadiens in Shootout

There were only two games on the NHL schedule November 11th, but one was a nice matchup between the Atlantic Division leading Montreal Canadiens and the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Canadiens have gotten off to a flying start this season and are well out in front in their division in the early going; the Penguins were in third in the much tighter Metropolitan Division. Montreal’s All World Goalie Carey Price is out for a few games due to a lower body injury, but hasn’t missed a beat with excellent backup Mike Condon in the nets.

Pittsburgh’s Pascal Dupuis scored just 13 seconds into the game to give the Penguins the early lead. The two teams then exchanged goals until Montreal took the lead in the second period on a goal by Brian Flynn. Patric Holmquist tied it up for Pittsburgh in the third. It was tied 3-3 at the end of regulation, and then again at the end of overtime and on to shootout to decide it.

In the shootout, Pittsburgh goalie Marc-Andre Fleury stopped shots by Alex Galchenyuk and David Desharnais, while Pittsburgh’s David Perron and Sidney Crosby both scored on Condon, giving the Penguins the win.

Montreal is 13-2-2 after the overtime loss, while Pittsburgh improved to 10-5-0. The Penguins moved into a tie for second with Washington in the Metropolitan Division, each with 20 points. The New York Rangers lead the division with 24 points.

Any time you cover either the Habs or the Cowboys losing, it is good reporting. There has been great reporting lately!
