NJ Gov Chris Christie Calls Daily News Sportswriter an Idiot: Daily News Calls Christie Fatso

New Jersey governor Chris Christie defended New York Jets coach Rex Ryan on a New York sports talk radio show following the coach’s much derided decision to play quarterback Mark Sanchez late in the Jets-New York Giants preseason game on August 24th.

Sanchez, who looked to be the starting QB after rookie Geno Smith failed to impress, got a shoulder injury and his status for the opener of the regular season is up in the air.  New York Daily News sportswriter Manish Mehta pointedly questioned Ryan in the postgame news conference, and the governor didn’t like it.

“Idiot, the guy’s a complete idiot,” the governor said on WFAN’s Boomer and Carton Show.  Christie went on, calling Mehta a “dope” and claimed “no Jets fan gives a damn about Manish Mehta”.

Mehta didn’t publicly respond, but the Daily News did.  The newspaper put Christie on the front page and asked “Who are you calling an idiot, Fatso”?

Yes, there clearly needs to be an adult in the room.  By the way, Christie says he’s a Dallas Cowboys fan, even though both the New York Jets and New York Giants share a stadium in East Rutherford New Jersey, a fact that “bothers” Christie.
