Actress and comedian, Niecy Nash, has taken up a new cause, over and above her regular gig as the host of “Clean House,” where she helps people unclutter. Niecy is the current spokeswoman for Toilets.org.
Niecy appeared on Joy Behar’s show to talk about it. Joy wanted to know why the toilet charity? “Were all the charities taken?,” she quipped.
Niecy said that wasn’t it, it was more like: “When no one is stepping up for something important, I’m your girl.”
When she began learning about the statistics surrounding people who don’t have proper sanitation and have to live in areas with polluted water, she decided to help the World Toilet Organization (www.worldtoilet.org). About 2.6 billion people in the world don’t have good water so Clorox, in conjunction with World Toilet, sent Niecy to Grand Central Station to hand out free subway cards to Flushing. What a clever gimmick, eh? Niecy said that people were receptive and a lot of them agreed to make a donation.
Niecy said she was not “born a neatnik,” but she keeps her house clean just in case the “Clean House” crew decides to knock on the door. “Clutter is an outward expression of an inward thing,” Niecy said.
Niecy and Joy were then joined by actress, Virginia Madsen (Scoundrels) and comedian, Scott Adsit (30 Rock) to discuss the “Seinfeld Diss: Lady Gaga’s a Jerk.”
Virginia Madsen thought it was hilarious and the only thing that was outrageous about the incident was putting Gaga in Seinfeld’s box, while Scott Adsit didn’t see any harm in letting her use the box, “unless she left some gaga on the seat.”
Niecy Nash thought Jerry Seinfeld had a good reason to sound off: “Here’s where the harm comes in,” Niecy said, “You can do whatever you want in your own home, but don’t come to my house cutting up.” Niecy said it would be different if they put Lady Gaga in a box of her own.
Then they brought up James Gandolfino flipping off the photographers and pondered why no one made a big deal out of that, saying it’s very common, especially in New York. The Italian salute is pretty common, too, by the way. Our own VJ of the name team was once given a very random Italian salute by an old lady she didn’t even know and she still doesn’t know why.
Virginia Madsen said it would be a lot different if they showed the vulgar things photographers say to try to provoke celebrities and models into losing it while they photograph and videotape their every move. Oh, the price of fame and fortune and the luxury boxes at the ballgame. Maybe they should give Jerry Seinfeld a credit for the Lady Gaga incident.
