Mikaela Shiffrin is a Rising Star on U.S. Ski Team

Those of you who pay attention to competitive Alpine Skiing only during Olympic years listen up.  The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia are just a year away, so remember the name Mikaela Shiffrin.

Shiffrin, who turns 18 on March 13th, won the Gold Medal in the Slalom at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Schladming, Austria on February 16th.  She’s the third youngest woman ever to win a World Championship in the slalom.

This was the fourth time this season she’s won the slalom on the World Cup circuit.  She also competes in the Giant Slalom, and may take up other Alpine events as her career progresses.  We look forward to seeing her next February, and for at least one or two more Olympics.
