Matt Jackson’s Jeopardy Statistics

Matt-Jackson-Boom

“For those of you who are into statistics,” Alex Trebek said, when opening the October 9, 2015 show, “let me begin today’s program by telling you that there are only four other players in the 31 years of Jeopardy! who have won more games than our current champion Matt Jackson. We’re not talking about cash winnings now nor tournament games, but regular games. If Matt wins today, he will be tied with the celebrated Arthur Chu.” Matt won his 11th game and is coming back on Monday, the 12th, for his 12th. Yup! 12th on the 12th. Arthur Chu also played his 12th game on the 12th (March 2014), only he lost. Julia Collins‘ 12th game took place on the 20th of May 2014. She won.

Here is a table with quick statistics on Matt’s wins so far. Since we know he is going to play this 12th game, win or lose, we’ve got the spot for Matt’s results all ready. After that, he still has to win 19 to tie Dave Madden. A 20th win will put him in a tie with Julia Collins. There’s still a long long way to go from 21 to 74, to tie Ken Jennings.

Updates: Added: Game 12, 13 and the game he lost, 14

That (R) after the winnings means he already had a runaway going into Final Jeopardy! (That’s a lot of runaways!) TDD = True Daily Double. The dates link to the game recaps.

Nine out of eleven are runaways: not only impressive, but can also constrain potential winnings.
