Madonna Take on Gaga: Graham Norton Show

Looks like Madonna is putting Gaga gossip to rest, offering up her opinions on the Mother Monster on not one, but two, talks shows. On Friday (1/13/2012), Madonna told Graham Norton that she thought Gaga was cool.

“When I first saw her, I saw her performing at a very small club in Manhattan a couple of years ago, maybe it was like three years ago,” the Material Girl said. “I actually was really impressed by her. I thought she was really cool and she did remind me of me back in the day. I loved her rawness and there was something fresh about here and ballsy, and when she spoke to the audience, she sounded like she had a similar sense of humor to me, quite ironic, and I liked her. I liked her. So I do think she is very talented.”

Then Madonna showed off some of that ironic sense of humor, telling Norton that it was more important to discuss why he named his dog after her. The British talk-show host said the dog’s name was already Madonna when he got her and he couldn’t have a dog named “Madonna” so he renamed her “Madge.” He has two dogs and told Madonna the other one’s name is “Bailey.”

“Not Gaga?” Madonna quipped.

On Friday, on ABCs 20/20, Madonna addressed the “Born This Way” controversy, saying it was “reductive.”

Reductive, eh? Let’s look that one up:

re·duc·tive (r-dktv) adj.

1. Of or relating to reduction.
2. Relating to, being an instance of, or exhibiting reductionism.
3. Relating to or being an instance of reductivism.

Not exactly a compliment, but Madonna expounded thusly: “I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it’s amusing and flattering and well-done.”
