All this snow that’s been falling on parts of the country this winter reminds us that U.S. Alpine Skier and Olympian Lindsey Vonn was named the Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year for 2010. Lindsey is the first skier of either gender to receive Athlete of the Year honors. Quarterback Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints won the Male Athlete of the Year Award.
Lindsey became the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in the downhill at the Vancouver Olympics. She also won a bronze in the super-G. She has won three consecutive overall World Cup ski championships (2008, 2009, and 2010) and her victory total on the World Cup circuit makes her the most successful American woman ski racer ever.
And let’s face it, she’s not only hot on the ski race circuit, she’s just plain hot. She appeared in the 2010 Sports Illustrated magazine’s swimsuit issue and is number 59 on Maxim magazine’s Hot 100 list. Hmm…if she was just 59th, the top ten must really be something. Anyway, she also appeared in the series finale of the TV series Law and Order. The 26 year old Minnesota native is at the top of her game and could win more of these Athlete of the Year awards. We also predict a TV broadcasting career covering Olympic and World Cup skiing when she’s done on the slopes.
