When country singer, LeAnn Rimes heard that Shape magazine’s editor-in-chief, Valerie Latona was apologizing via a mass email for Lee Ann’s appearance on their October cover, she was startled, particularly because last she heard — Shape is throwing a party for her next week to celebrate her cover.
“Just so all my fans know, I’m getting to the bottom of this … ” LeAnn tweeted, “Shape is throwing me a party next week as a thank you and a congrats for being on their cover for the 3rd time. I find this very contradictory.”
Valerie Latona said her words were taken out of context in a statement to the Daily News: “… I used the words of the few unhappy readers who wrote in,” and elaborating on why she put Lee Ann on the cover of her mag for the third time, she also said: “I stand by the fact that LeAnn’s story is compelling — and her courage and strength in the face of so much adversity is compelling,” Latona said.
Latona also said “a mere 40 readers out of almost 6 million” wrote in to complain about the LeAnn cover branding LeAnn a ‘husband stealer’ and a ‘terrible mistake for Shape’. The “apology” Valerie sent these readers was to express her regret that Shape’s cover choice did not make them happy. Valerie also said that this is not the first time she has written back to unhappy readers and the other times didn’t have anything to do with LeAnn Rimes.
When LeAnn found out about the out-of-context stuff, she tweeted: “I’m amazed daily by the media. Facts are stated and they STILL can’t report the truth. The truth could hit them smack in the face and they would twist it. It’s actually hysterical to me and terribly disturbing what lies we are fed daily.”
The trick, LeAnn, is to wait for the other foot to fall before tweeting. Oh, and if you don’t want to be called a “husband stealer” anymore, have a baby. It worked for Angelina Jolie and Alicia Keys.
Just saying.
