Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony Out 4-6 Months After Knee Surgery

The New York Knicks’ disastrous 2014-15 NBA season just got worse. With the league’s worst record at 10-43, the Knicks announced February 18th that Carmelo Anthony will miss 4 to 6 months after he had surgery on his left knee. The knee had been bothering him all season and with the hapless Knicks beyond hope of accomplishing anything this season, the decision was made to shut him down after the NBA All Star Game and get the problem fixed.

Don’t look for too many more victories for New York this season as the Knicks were 0-13 in games that Anthony did not play. Considering the length of time Anthony will be off the court, it may have been more prudent to shut him down sooner, but in any case he should be ready for next season’s training camp. Here’s a look at Anthony’s career high 62 point game against Charlotte back in January of 2014:

With the team entering a complete rebuilding mode, the Knicks parted company with another veteran player this week. With the career clock ticking, 32-year old center/forward Amar’e Stoudemire requested a buyout of his contract so he could see if he could latch onto a contender. He didn’t have to wait long, signing with the Dallas Mavericks on February 18th. Dallas was looking for a big man to come off the bench, and the 6’10’ 245 pound Stoudemire fills the bill nicely. He averaged 12 points and 6.8 rebounds in 24 minutes per game with New York, and will have a much stronger team around him in Dallas.
